Alright... I want to make an easy place to submit bugs and issues right now. As I fix them, I will try and post a reply here. But, anyone can use this thread as a dumping ground for all issues you run into.

So, let me kick it off by re-issuing Matt Milner's bug. The box where you enter this message is REALLY small in Mozilla and there are two greyed out boxes that need to be removed. Additionally, the message subject label should be investigated in replies.

Sean D. Bryson 4/29/2004

Alright... I fixed the Mozilla bug related to the size of the message box. As it turns out, I was using aan attribute in a control that only was valid on Internet Explorer.

So, sorry Mozilla guys! I did get it fixed and I will make sure I update the other boxes with this code. If you see anything I have missed, please let me know.

Also, if you look closely, the Subject bug has been fixed in the replies (the Subject text still appeared and said it was required, but there was no place to enter any information). Additionally, in Mozilla, the greyed out boxes bug has been fixed. Again, this was another element that only applied to our Mozilla friends (or anyone running Netscape and Firefox for those that aren't sure what Mozilla is).

So... please keep the bugs flowing! :)

I stumbled across another very small bug that probably no one has noticed. After you log in, it has always said it has been 0 days since you last logged into the site. I forgot to remove the most recent sign-in from the list. So, that bugs has been fixed.

In addition, this error has been happening on the What's New page making the results a little off. This, too, has now been fixed.

Now, I would like to solicit your opinion. Right now, after you log in, you are redirected to the My Profile page. Which of the following would you rather be redirected to:

- The Home Page
- My Profile
- What's New
- Other

I have considered updating the login process to capture the page that referred you so after the login, you can be redirected. For example, if you try to respond to this message and you have not logged in, then you will be sent to the login page, but after you log in, you go to the Profile page. Instead, I am thinking about changing this process so after you log in, you would come back to this page so you could get right back to where you were. For the most part, this will be easy. There are a couple little things I need to work out.

But, in the meantime, where would you like to be redirected?

This is fun... posting to myself!

A bunch of new bugs and issues were fixed tonight. Most of the work this evening was on bugs and issues. First, if you saw the What's New page before tonight, most of the numbers showed 0 and the links did not provide any details. This issue has been resolved so you can now see what has really changed since your last visit. This change was made in the 8 places that were causing the issue.

Due to feedback on the subscriptions tool on a reply, the text has been changed to make it easier to understand how the feature works and what happens when you click on that link.

A couple of other bugs were resolved in which a reply to a news or announcement posting would be marked as disapproved and would not appear on the site.

The code was completed that now allows you to post a picture for a specific area. So, go to any areas page and you can now upload a picture and a description.

A lot of time was also spent updating the areas and what stakes/districts they belong to. A new "stake" was created called Retired Units. This evening four former wards/branches were moved into this category as they no longer exist. This will serve as a gathering point for all former areas.

Additionally, all of the current wards and branches in the other stakes were updated. Guarujá, Piratiniga, and Rudge Ramos had the most updates. Only the São Vicente and Praia Grande stakes were not updated, though.

So, lots of little things this evening that all add up. As always, if you run across a bug, please let me know!

Thanks

Ah, the space...the room. The Mozilla bug fix looks good.

Matt Milner 5/17/2004

Sean,

Just noticed that when I click on the "More.." link under "Recent Visitors", the first 8 names on the list don't have a "Full Name" link--it's completely blank. The 9th name on the list only has "Elder" with no last name.

Matt Milner 5/17/2004

The info under my "Welcome Matt Milner" banner still says that it has been 0 days since I last logged in.

Sean D. Bryson 5/17/2004

Ah... so you found the missing missionary name bug! This is actually a bug to fix a bug! While registering on the old site, a page was displayed for missionaries asking for their mission title (Elder or Sister), their mission name (Milner for you), the date they started their mission and the date they ended their mission. If this information was not added and the user clicked next, an error page was displayed and I am sure most people just closed the window at that time. Hence, we have a number (almost half) of missionaries that have not updated this information.

Now, the plan is to fix this when they all update their information on the new site. However, in testing, it seems like the update wouldn't happen unless the user was at least fully considered a missionary in the system. So, all of the incomplete missionaries were added so they would be able to update their information. However, not all of the information is there... and that is the information used to make a link. Hence, the missing links for these people.

So, the debate is do I spend the time to fix this issue or just hurry up and finish and get people to update their information, or both! :) For now, I will not fix this issue. Once the site has gone live, if a number of people continue running into this, I will fix it. I am hoping this will just go away when the new site goes live.

So, what do you think?

Sean D. Bryson 5/17/2004

Hey Matt "The Bug Finder"!

I realized what I did wrong that causes the last login date to always show 0 days. It was a minor mis-calculation. So, I have fixed the piece that figures out how long it has been so now you can really get an idea how long it takes between visits.

In looking at it, though, I must say this was one of the longest stretches for you!

So.... I have knocked off both of the new bugs you gave me. Wanna throw some more at me! :)

you are no longer posting to yourself.

The personal website url on the profiles, is being linked with the baseurl/there website.

Kevan C. Mills 10/1/2004

Are you still looking for bugs to fix? I have a couple things I have noticed that I will share if you have the time.

Sean D. Bryson 10/8/2004

I love hearing about the bugs - it means people are using the site and finding the issues! :)

So, please feel free to let me know what you have run into. I know several people have experienced issues with the email validation URL. This has now been fixed.

Due to work demands, I have not been able to make major updates in some time now. However, I was able to get some time with the site and have a major revision to the beta site coming very soon (most likely by the 9th of October). Hopefully this new version addresses some of the issues people have been having as well.

I look forward to hearing what you have found and what you would like changed.

Thanks!

Thanks for keeping this website going - it is great!

When the checkbox "Do NOT display my email address to non-registered users" is checked, it is still showing my email to non-registered users. I played around with the other checkbox "Do NOT display my email address to registered users" and that functionality worked.

Jason Inman 1/11/2005

Nice job on the site. It has been a long time since I had a free moment to log on. I need to spend sometime looking around. Thanks for keeping this site up.

As far as bugs go, one bug I found is the menu every now and again will switch to a grey bar that states "ASP.NET Menu :: Demo version. Purchase the full version here."

Not that I would ever want to, but I was unable to locate a logout link. Is it only on certain pages?

By the way, excellent work on the site. Thanks for all you do.

Sean D. Bryson 2/26/2005

Thanks for the comments and feedback. Right now, there is not a logout function. Would you like to see one added?

As for the ASP.NET Demo menu you see every now and then, that was a component I looked at buying for the site. The only problem has been money. This site is financially supported by me, and as such I can only allocate a certain amount to it before the wife starts to question me! :)

Sometime over the summer, I plan on upgrading the backend components of the site to a newer technology that will replace the current menu. The plan is to keep the look and feel the same - just use a different technology and one that won't cost me any additional money. As this will be replaced in the near future, I am reluctant to purchase the component right now. Should you see the demo message, just hit refresh or click on a link. The menu should then return.
